Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive Health Centers, Inc. is seeking a full-time Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist performs routine laboratory tasks related to processing whole blood and blood components.



  • Identify appropriate phlebotomy site and Perform phlebotomy duties according to appropriate protocol
  • Receive, log in and process specimens
  • Order and maintain supplies in the blood drawing area
  • Process cytology specimens according to guidelines established by Laboratory Director or Manager
  • Provide instructions to patient regarding appropriate collection of specimens. (Fecal, sputum, urine, etc.)
  • Perform waived laboratory tests and/or assistant Laboratory Technologist as needed conforming to testing policies and procedures
  • Maintain OSHA standards for all technical and phlebotomy and/or specimen processing functions. Conform to appropriate infection control policies in their contact with patients and with blood and body fluids (i.e. practice Universal Precautions)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and follows all laboratory technical and quality assurance policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, patient test records, and test analyses including calibration procedures.  Reads and/or reviews policies and procedures periodically and in a timely manner
  • Periodically performs and documents proficiency testing (PT), test on appropriate specimens, slides, or PT material following laboratory policies and does it in a satisfactory manner  Satisfactorily performs and documents all other internal quality assurance and training procedures as they pertain to phlebotomy and waived test performance (i.e. competency procedures)
  • Work in an organized manner, keeping work area neat and clean
  • Performs daily and preventative instrument maintenance. Follows all corrective action procedures if test systems are not functioning within acceptable limits of performance.  Documents appropriately and take appropriate corrective action
  • Identify adverse instrument and/or test system operation or performance and/or notifies appropriate management of problem and takes corrective action as appropriate (Coordinator, Section Leader, Supervisor, or Director)


A Successful Candidate:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to follow instructions meticulously
  • Must be able to accept and adapt to feedback
  • Good teamwork skills



  • Education:  High School Diploma or GED required. Certified Medical Coder certification from an accredited program required
  • Experience: 1 year of experience working in the laboratory environment with phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Other:  Must have reliable transportation.
